401 Blue Lakes and rafting on Bystraya River

Blue Lakes are one of the most beautiful and, what is the most important, accessible places in Kamchatka. They lie 600 m. high above sea level in a picturesque glacier hollow. The lakes got their name because of a very interesting nature phenomenon pure and clear waters and ice in the bottom of the lake reflect sun light so that for those who stand on the bank it seems that waters have blue or violet color, depending on season and quantity of ice on the bottom of the lake. In June and July you will be struck by the plenty of sub-alpine flowers. Near the lake hollow we see long-tailed gophers and ground squirrels. A brook flows from the lake down the precipice forming cascades of waterfalls and little fountains. There are two kinds of rather rare Kamchatka orchids in this area.
